"The Story of the Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly" by Luis Sepúlveda is an enthralling and whimsical tale of an unlikely friendship between a fat cat and a seagull. The cat Zorbas is tasked by a seagull's dying wish, to hatch, raise and teach flying to her chick. Zorbas and his friends quickly discover that raising a seagull is not an easy feat! This moving, uplifting story has a strong environmental theme and has been a worldwide bestseller.

I design Eye-Catching Cover Art for Books, Albums, and More.
Cover design for the book ‘Illuminations’ by the amazing children’s book author T. Kingfisher. I drew inspiration from medieval book illuminations for the framing, contrasting the stylized frame with the realistic depiction of the crow in the centre.
Cover art for an imagined book.
The cover art initially draws the viewer’s eye to the prominent yellow compass and the book’s title. As one continues to observe, subtle details begin to reveal themselves: birds soaring, a ship gradually appearing through a shroud of fog, captivating the viewer’s attention.
About
Hello! My name is Merle Grimm and I am an illustrator. I am passionate about bringing stories to life through art and creating magical worlds that inspire and entertain.
The images were made digitally or using watercolour, though I also love sketching with charcoal and graphite.
When I’m not sketching or painting, you’ll find me lost in a good book, fueled by my love for stories. I believe that art has the magical ability to bring these tales to life, sparking imagination and wonder in young hearts.
I love creating custom artwork. If you would like to commission a project or inquire about licensing, please contact me.
